Contiguous Pile Shoring

Contiguous pile walls are used where only earth retention is the main requirement as the system is not watertight. Contiguous walls offer greater structural capacity as all the piles are reinforced and walls can be designed as cantilever, propped cantilever or with multilevel tied back anchors or struts to support deeper excavation depths.

Process

Contiguous pile walls are closely spaced piles installed along the perimeter of excavation with a gap in between. This gap is generally kept between 50-150mm depending upon the soil conditions and installation method. Piles can be installed using bored rotary, CFA or CCFA techniques.

Common Uses:

  • Protection of existing structures
  • Lateral support system for earth only.
  • Construction of underpasses, metro stations and deep basement excavations

Advantages

  • Shallow to medium depth excavations.
  • Construction in hard strata
  • Protection of sensitive surrounding buildings
  • Low lateral movement
