Dynamic Compaction (DC)
Dynamic Compaction (DC) is a vibration induced ground improvement engineering technique that harnesses the deliberate force of a hoisted weight, typically in the range of 10 to 30 tonnes,. This pounder weight is dropped from the fall height of 5 to 20m in a meticulously planned grid pattern, based on design, effectively enhancing the density and stability of loose, granular soils and fills.
Process
Dynamic compaction, a powerful soil enhancement technique, achieves the compaction of soils and fill materials by employing a substantial free-falling weight. This heavy pounder steel, typically weighing 10 to 30 tonnes, impacts the ground with each fall from heights of up to 10 meters. The tamper is systematically dropped in a grid pattern across the site, creating passes. Depending on soil characteristics, two or three passes may be necessary at each of the improved grid point. After each pass, the imprints at each drop location are filled with granular material, finalizing the process.
