Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC)
Rapid Impact Compaction employs a hammer that delivers repeated, forceful strikes to an impact plate on the ground surface, effectively densifying the near-surface granular soils by vibrations.
Process
RIC technique helps densifying the existing soils that would typically require excavation or layer-by-layer compaction using traditional rollers. It functions by transmitting energy to the loose granular soils underneath, causing particles to reconfigure into a denser arrangement. Remarkably, RIC can effectively enhance the density of soils up to 4-5 meters deep without the need for excavation or layer-by-layer compaction. Moreover, it’s adaptable for fill compaction, efficiently accommodating bulk fill materials without any additional water. In extensive infrastructure projects, RIC stands out, primarily due to its rapid execution, resulting in significantly enhanced cost-effectiveness compared to layer-by-layer compaction using rollers.
